Craps Psychics

added 20.06.2011, 12:44PM

Craps is full of strange happenings and stories among gamblers. However, one of the strangest things in craps is the people who think that they have a sort of psychic ability. For example, some people will get a premonition about how someone else touching the dice or a change in dealers will end a hot streak, then they'll stop betting big - only to see their premonition become true when the dice go cold. When this happens several times to the same person, they start to think that they've got some sort of psychic ability.

To most people, this is pure nonsense because there's no real, tangible proof of psychic ability. After all, if somebody really did have psychic powers that could be proved, it would be on the news everywhere. However, there is also a sect of people who believe in this sort of thing, so it's worth examining further.

The reason why certain people believe that they have some sort of psychic ability is because they have no other possible explanation for why making the decision to stop betting big after somebody touched the dice worked. There are no statistics at work with this feeling - just acting on a belief and seeing it work. But the question to ask in these situations is what about the times when these people have a feeling that doesn't come through?

Has their psychic ability suddenly failed? Or is it merely the fact that variance happens, and sometimes your feelings will come true, while other times those feelings will be completely false. It's the same reasoning behind why people are able to win eight bets in a row, only to go and lose their next eight bets. Sure this is a strange occurrence, but things like this are bound to happen when people play craps.

Even with this being said, many players strongly believe that they have some sort of psychic ability to predict future hot streaks. And while some people may ride out these "psychic" beliefs to hot nights at the table, plenty of other people will wish that they never believed in Miss Cleo or any other psychic nonsense!
